Removed the grass

Question
I have an area of grass 170" X 190" of grass and I would like to remove it completely. What should I do? Put a sheet of nylon paper and put a thick mulch on top?

There are reasons why I want to get rid of the grass. Too much maintenance and the whole neighborhood only a few keep the grass and most of the owners keep mulch and no grass

Thanks in advance,

Answer
Mother Nature seems to hate bare ground; She will find a way to cover it and She has forces at Her command (wind, rain, birds and bees are only a few) which give Her a great advantage over us.
There are dedicated people who are trying very hard to develop plants which suit your situation. Your County Extension Service will give you this information for free.
Instead of following the example of you neighbors, why not set a good example for them? Working with Mother Nature is less stressful than working against Her.
This may not be the answer that you were expecting but it would be a betrayal to a few good persons if I told you differently.
