Stinging grass in yard

Question
We live around Houston, Texas and a big problem with stinging grass. How do you kill this grass without hurting St. Augstine grass in our yard?

Answer
Hi L.A.;
I don't know what you mean bu stinging grass. I never heard of that.
Are you referring to stinging nettles?
I lived in Houston a long time ago,( live in the Dallas area now), but I never heard of stinging grass.
Apparently it is a weed, though, and weeds will not thrive in rich soil.
Make rich soil and weeds will not live long in your yard.
Chemical fertilizers, etc will NOT enrich soil.
The add artificial nutrients that wear out soon, and you have to reapply.
With an organic program, you don't need weed killers etc.
A chemical program causes problems, they do not cure them.
Organics cure the problems.
With a healthy organic enviornment, beneficial critters like lizards ( you have tons of them around Houston)grass snakes, toads, etc feed on the harmful insects that invade your lawn, making insecticides unnecessary.
They do a bettet job of it than the chemicals do too.
I have not used anything by sugar on my lawn for about 8 or 9 years, until last spring, and I have a thick, lush, lawn of St. Augustine grass, and NO WEEDS.
Sugar does notheing to the soil, but it nourishes the beneficial microbes that DO work round the clock, enriching your soil.
When the soil is rich, any weeds that do come up, start to die out right away.
If you apply sugar to your lawn now, ( and have not put down chemical fertilizer since Around October, or November, it will start to revive those microbes.
If you have used slow acting chemicals on your lawn, it may take longer.
Those chemicals have to get out of the soil, before an organic program will take over.
If you use any chemialcs, it cancels out your organic products.
The fertilizers kill out the beneficial micrones and some beneficial insects.
For every harmful insect that invades your lawn, there are hundreds of beneficial ones that feed on the harmful ones. Chemicals kill the beneficial ones, and they wear out soon, so the harmful ones that are not killed, can reproduce and you have all the problem back again.
Taods love slugs, ants and other insects.
Your grass snakes and lizards eat all kinds of insects.
I have organic remedies for all kinds of harmful insects, but have not had to use even them for over 6 years now. My toads, lizards, and grass snakes keep them all eaten.
The beneficial insects( microscopic) eat the microscopic insects that harm your lawn. The harmful nematodes and mold etc.
I grow roses, but had such an aphid problem. I had to spray once a month, and still had aphid damage when the roses opened.
for years now, the lizards have eaten ALL the aphids, and every rose opens up pure and sweet smelling. No aphid damage.
I now longer have June bugs swarming all over in June, and don't have the grubs in my lawn, no ants ( even fire ants)
I just put sugar at the rate of 4 to 5 pounds per 1000 sq.ft of lawn and garden, each spring and fall, water it in, and let nature take it's course, and let my lawn critters do their work.
Chemicals kill all those beneficial critters.
Last spring I read on Howard Garrett's site about lava sane and alfalfa meal. They really add a lot more nutrients for added growth.
