Moss Lawn Damage under Tree

Question
The past two years my lawn under a large Oak tree has been getting progressively thinner and thinner. The tree roots appear to be near the surface and now I've got green/rusty type moss taking over the lawn. I've read about trimming the tree branches, but they seem pretty high already. And the lawn does get sun in the morning up to 11am and from 1 to dusk pm. It is a wet area as we have lake property. Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Rich,

The roots and shade are most likely causing problems, but I wouldn't recommend that you battle with them. Grass is going to be rough in that area.

I usually recommend to people that they spread a nice mulch throughout the rooted area where the grass is having trouble. It looks nice, and it eliminates the headaches of trying to grow grass where it doesn't want to be.

Good luck!
