Willow tree damage

Question
My wife and I planted a young weeping willow tree recently. After returning home from work one day we see that our dog has chewed off he upper half of the tree!!! Is it likely that this tree is going to make it or should we plan on replacing it?

Answer
Willow trees will sprout very easily. Just remove the broken branches and the tree should sprout back this spring. When it sprouts back you may need to prune some of the branches to re-creat a tree appearance. I would wait until mid summer to see what type of shape the tree is growing into. Try to keep the dogs off the new sprouts.
