moss


Question
I realize i may not be in your area of expertise but they currently don't have a "lawn" expert.I was wondering if you could help me with lawn moss.It has been getting worse for a couple years.I have clay soil,if that helps.  thanx in advance

Hey, Will.

Moss indicates that your soil is wet all the time. The easiest solution is to cut down on watering, especially since you have a clay soil. If you're not watering, check the downspouts from your roof to see where they are discharging water. Check to make sure that your neighbors aren't watering your lawn, either with their landscape irrigation system or water from their property flowing onto your property.

After that, the thing to do would be to add some lime to the soil. When adding lime, though, you need to really work it into the soil, which means you're going to be destroying any lawn that you currently have there.
