newly sodded st augustine grass

Question
grass has been down about a week and was very yellow---it is a little greener now but is there anything we can do to improve the color? We have given plenty of water

Answer
Newly laid sod will take some time to root in. You can judge the progress of this process by gently pulling on the sod at random. After it has rooted in, only then will it be able to take up any fertilizer you apply. I expect that with the watering program, it will be a waste to apply any fertilizer at this time. The sod pieces have been stacked on pallets and this has caused the covered pieces to yellow out. Sunlight alone should cause a greening up in the next few days.
