carpet grass

Question
I recently planted carpet grass,it was slightly green when we bought it,now that we got it all layed out we have been watering it daily, but it seems to be getting drier than greener,am i doing somthing wrong? should i water more,or use something like miracle grow?

Answer
I am not familiar with carpet grass and when I tried to find out, there were two different grasses going under this common name.
The first one has the surname 'Axonopus' and the other's is 'Agrostis'. The first one is also called 'mattress' grass because of its cushioning effect as you walk (or romp)on it. It flourishes in the tropics.
Agrostis is creeping bent grass. It makes a good turf and if I had to guess, I would say that this is the sod you put down. All sod needs to make close contact with the soil surface; very often a roller is used to make this happen. After that, frequent watering, more than anything else, will help the sod to root in. Lift the corners of some individual sod pieces to test if they have rooted. If not rooted in, water the area every day in the morning and again in the afternoon but early enough to allow the grass blades to dry before the sun goes down. Do the lift test once a week to see how rooting is coming along.
Now, here is the other thing. If you have been watering it accordingly, it is rooted in and it is looking drier (browning?)maybe a fungus is present. If the symptom shows up in straight lines near to the edges of the sod pieces, the sod is drying out. If the disorder shows up in circular patches and in places (like the middle of a sod piece) where water may have settled, then it could be a fungus.
I hope this helps because we do not want your efforts (and expenses) to fail.
