soft grass spreading over st. augustine

Question
I have a fast spreading, soft, carpet-like grass that is growing over my St. Augustine and thinning it out. It is a warm season grassy weed, but I have searched many sites and can't find it anywhere. I live in southeast Texas. Thank you for any help you can give.

Answer
I cannot identify the weed but atrazine is a good all-round product for weed control in St. Augustine turf. The chemical can harm the turf if the weather is hot. Products containing 2.4D can be used but this chemical is quite harmful to all broadleaf plants and particularly so to St. Augustine turf unless ALL label precautions are observed.
