Patio stones

Question
We have a patio and the stones are slowly disintegrating. I like the way this looks but we might have to sell the house one of these days and I want it to look less like it's falling apart than it being planned this way. I vaguely remember seeing this kind of thing in a magazine and the owners had grown some sort of plant (moss?) on the stones that made them look really nice. Could you suggest something I could do, please? There is a roof over this patio so it does not get full, just filtered light.
Thank you very much.

Answer
Hi there!

Yes, it is moss that they use.
It is a wonderfull thing to grow, and it not only costs very little to maintain, but also is very good for the environment.
It doesn't need all those chemicals that are commonly used in lawns.

You could try to use a mixture of four parts of clay and  one part of bone meal. That is, if you don't have a dog.
If you do just use plain clay.

Fill all the spaces between the stones with either the mix, or the plain clay. Make sure you water it everyday.
You should be able to see mosss growing in about two months.

Good luck with your project!

Keep in touch.

Carlo
