concrete patio

Question
We have a concrete patio, but it slopes toward our house. We want to fix it and have heard of self leveling mortars, but do they really work? Also how do you get that nice finished look? We have known people to use brooms but we wouldn't be able to reach the middle of the patio. Lastly how do you figure up how much compound you need to purchase?

Answer
Hi and thank you for your e-mail. Yes they do have a self leveling mortar, and it does work pretty good as long as you follow ever step to the tee. There is another route you can possible take a look at and that is an epoxy based driveway resurfacing. It is becoming very popular now because there is so many things you can do with it to totally change the look of your driveway. You can stamp it to give your driveway a flagstone look, or a tile, or any other design you like. Also it is stainable and the choices of colors are endless. You may want to do a little research about it. I almost forgot the best thing about the epoxy, it not supposed to ever crack, fade, break, etc. but the mortar can and usually will. As for the broom finish, they use handle extensions to get the big slabs. I hope I was a little help. Feel free to contact me again if you ever need to. Thanks and good luck. Bill
