deck/patio design

Question
Laura:  we have an existing brick patio that was layed 10 years ago when we put on an addition.  It was done badly and we have sunken areas below foundation with water problems.  We are pulling it up and are considering an on-ground deck with a brick patio around the deck.  I am trying my hand at design but not doing well.  Should I get a professional landscape plan made?  If so, how do I find a designer that is competent.  If I do it,how do I go about designing one.

Answer
Pam,
You could get a software designed specifically for decks and patios by going to www.google.com and typing in"basic patio design software" or "beginners software for patios" or type in your area for landscape designers and you will come up with those names to call for a free estimate.Take photos first so you know exactly what you want and the lay of your property. You could make a few rough sketches to show a designer what you are looking to achieve or look through some website photos to see what you like and show them these. Good luck on your project!
