inground sprinkler

Question
Hi,
I have a 6 zone inground sprinkler system. I recently just closed on the house and I cant seem to get zone 4 on the system to work on auto or Manually. Everything at the control box setting seems tight. How can I figure out at the box in the ground what is wrong with that zone.
                 Thanks Tim Scott

Answer
If it doesn't work using the controller, first make sure that the valve is open and adjusted.  On top of the valve should be a knob that is the flow control.  Open it all the way, then close it all the way counting the turns.  Then open it back halfway.  If this doesn't work then you may have an electrical problem.  Make sure that the wire connections at the valve (the wire nuts) are good and secure.  Replace with waterproof wire nuts if necessary.  Also make sure that the wire at the controller terminal is tight and secure.  It is also possible that the solenoid at the valve (the small black cylinder attached to the valve) may need to be replaced.
