Sprinkler malfunction

Question
I have a Hardie HR-6100 controller. I went to manually shut off the sprinkler and the water continues to flow. I have tried all possible combinations to make it shut off, no luck. Could it be a solenoid? How do I replace it. What else can I do? Water shut off at main.

Answer
I would try a few things.  On top of the valve is a knob that controls the flow.  Make sure it is no more than halfway open.  If this is not the cause, you may have to dissemble the valve and clean out the interior parts.  Grit and debris will accumulate in the valve and cause it to malfunction.  It is easy to do, remove the screws in the top of the valve, and carefully separate all the parts.  Inspect the rubber diaphragm for holes or tears and replace if needed.  Reassemble the valve give it another try.
