Question
I have a Hardie Irrigation Sprinkler System -- HR 6100.

The system turned on by itself today and I've tried everything to turn it off - switching to off button and even unplugging the system from the wall.  But it won't turn off.  Any suggestions as my $$ literally washes away?

You need to find the water shut-off valve. your sprinkler valve or valves have an internal malfunction and the controller isn't the cause.
Somewhere around the outside of the home should be a backflow preveter. This has manual valve to turn off the system. Here is a web link to a common backflow preventer.

Once shut down I'd suggest calling an irrigation service person.
