Sprinkler system running intermittent

Question
Hello Jim,

I have an Irritrol Kwikdial irrigation system, it was installed 5 years ago and it was running pretty smooth until now. 3 days ago I noticed one of the stations was running intermittent, by that I mean the sprinklers will pop, work for several seconds and then they will go back in the ground. Several seconds will pass and the same cycle repeats again and again, the only difference is the duration the sprinklers heads stay out varies.

I also noticed the panel displays a small blinking battery symbol with a line across and the lcd panel shuts down as the sprinklers hide in the ground. Then when the panel turns back on, the sprinklers will pop out and do the same intermittent cycle again. Also there is another message in the panel, it reads SEN.

Any advice you can give will help me a great deal since I have no clue where or what to look for.

Thank you so much.

Val

Answer
Hey Val, I hope this helps. The battery symbol means the controller is re-charging the internal battery. Is the problem only on one station? If it is, then you probably have a faulty solenoid on this valve, and it needs to be replaced. The SEN sumbol stands for sensor, either the rain sensor or a faulty valve sensor. If you are having problems with more than one station, then the controller could be going out. If it is just one station, I would suggest checking the solenoid on this particular valve. Let me know if I can be of anymore help, thanks and have a great day.
