irrigation pump with well mate bladder tank

Question
Living in a cold area in NE Oregon, I completely drained the pump and lines in October. I drained the faucet near the pressure gauge coming from the tank.

Starting up the system, the pump seems to be working okay, but I can get no pressure in the lines. The pressure switch is set to come on at 35, but the tank air pressure at the top only reads about 4 psi. Do I need to add pressure to the tank or could the system have failed over the winter because I did not get all the water out of the tank? There is no water coming out of the air pressure inlet at the top of the tank. Am wondering if I am just having a problem getting the pump to prime from the pond.

Thank you.

Answer
I would suspect the pump has lost its prime before anything else.  Also check for leaks in your suction line, and if all else fails, depending on what kind of pump you have, you may want to pull the suction line and inspect the foot valve at the end of it.
