Irrigation well pump

Question
I have a 7 zone system with a STA Rite DS2 pump. When the system is operational the water is not a constant flow but
surges out on 3 and maybe sometimes 4 of the zones. I had the a new pump installed in Nov (06). Also I noticed that when I test  the system about 3 PM  there's no problem with the pressure. Could the problem be that I am watering when the neighbors are also watering and the water table is being affected???

Answer
I can think of a couple of things that might be happening.  One is that too many of your valves are open at the same time.  YOu mentioned that water surges out of 3 or 4 zones.  Commonly only one or two valves will be open at a time.  Check to make sure the irrigation controller (timer) is working properly.  The other situation may be that the pump is pumping out too much water for the well, emptying the cavity periodically then re-priming.  This could also cause a surge.  For this, you will need to have a local well service person look at the problem.
