Clogged misters in sprinkler system

Question
The intake filter for my sprinkler system sits in the lake which is mucky.  my misters for my flowers are always clogged with it.  It's costing me a fortune to have my irrigation specialists coming out to fix a problem that never gets fixed.  Any solution?

Answer
Hey Rachel, I hope this helps. The first thing I would suggest, would be that the end of the intake, be elevated above the bottom of the lake, and that it also be installed in a concrete or plastic ring, that either river rock or gravel can be placed in. This would allow cleaner water to initially enter the system, without the muck or dirt from the bottom of the lake to be sucked in. The next thing I would have installed, would be either a good stainless steel Y filter/strainer, or a good canister filter, similar to ones that are used on pools. Either one of these units, would need to be cleaned periodically. The next thing I would install, would be a smaller Y filter on the particular valve that runs the misters to the flowers. This filter should have a very fine filter element, as fine as 200 microns. The problem with the misters, is that the opening(hole) that the water comes out, is so small, that unless you filter all the fine particles out of the water, they will always clog up. The key to any good sprinkler system, is how clean is the water that is being used. If the water is dirty, you are always going to have problems with the valves, heads, misters, emmitters, etc. Let me know if I can be of anymore assistance. Thanks and have a great day.
