Hunter EC contoller off and pump runs

Question
QUESTION: Hi there. I have a Hunter EC controller hooked up to a wellpoint/pump with 2 stations. I used to use the pump manually (at the mains) without the controller but have now decided to use it. I have a pump start relay installed to start the pump when the controller activates a program. I am now experiencing a very strange problem. The pump comes on when controller is idle or set to OFF, and the pump switches off when a Program starts. It will remain off for the entire duration of the program and will switch on again once the program is finished. This very odd, as it seems to be working opposite or reverse i.e. pump goes off when the controller triggers it/program activates and pump goes on when controller stops program. I am very confused, please help. thanks

ANSWER: Hey Shane, it sounds like you have the relay installed backward. Try switching the wires on the relay. Good luck and let me know if I can be of anymore help. Thanks and have a great day.

QUESTION: Hi Jim, thanks for advice. I tried swopping the wires and it did not work. I also tried putting the wires on the opposite side terminals of the relay, here nothing happened at all. I am using a Iskra relay, Type: TRP-682. I have checked there website but did not get any info on connections. http://www.iskra-se.si/PR69.htm
I have also e-mailed them and will await their feedback. If you can offer any further advice, it will be appreciated.

Answer
Hey Shane, I hope this helps. Basically what the relay is, is a switch. Normally the switch (relay) is normally off. When the controller sends out a signal (24 volts) the switch makes contact, and the circuit is complete and allows the pump to run. Somehow you have the relay so it is "on" all the time until the controller tells it to turn "off". It could be you have the wrong relay, I'm not real familiar with pumps and relays, but maybe your relay is "on" until the controller turns it  "off". You need a relay that is "off' all the time, until the clock turns it "on". I'm sorry I'm not of greater help. Good luck and let me know if I can be of further help. Thanks and have a good day.
