Hardie Irrigation: 9 FUS error

Question
Hello Mr. Schaefer,

I have a Hardie Irrigation 476 PRI system. It has six zones although we use only four. It has worked fine for the last few years. When I went to activate the system yesterday, there is a "9 FUS" message on the LED window and nothing works. I reset the circuit breaker for that electrical circuit, and reseated the 9-volt battery, to no avail. I saw another person's message in which they had a "1 FUS" error and an expert suggested replacing the solenoid. Is "9 FUS" a related issue? If so, could you point me to a diagram so that I know where to find the solenoid? is it easy to replace?

Thank you very much!

Andrew

Answer
Hey Andrew, sorry this has taken awhile, we've had a family emergency, but everything is good now. First I would suggest taking out the battery, and disconnecting the power for about 1 minute. Then power the unit back up without the battery. Now turn one station on at a time manually with the controller. Once you turn on the valve with the bad solenoid, it should start flashing "fus", and this way you will know what valve(solenoid) you need to replace. The valves(solenoid) will be out in your yard somewhere, either above the ground, or below the ground in a plastic valve box. It is hard for me to tell you where to look, since I am not familiar with your yard. If you have to, and you cannot find your valves, you might have to hire a professional, and they can trace out the wire from the controller, and find the valves for you. A solenoid is very easy to replace, it simply unscrews off the top of the valve, and you can screw a new one on. You will also need to hook the 2 wires up to the new solenoid, from the old ones you disconnected from the old solenoid. A good website is www.irrigationtutorials.com. Good luck and let me know if you have anymore questions, thanks and have a great day.
