Gould 1HP pump check valve

Question
Mr. Reyes,
I have a shallow well irrigation system with a 1HP gould pump that is approximately 2 years old. I put a new solenoid in because the pump was pulsating and getting hot. It would loose pressure and re prime in 15 to 20 second intervals. I found a couple of valve leaks and replaced vales and sprinkler heads(to be sure). I also ventilated the pump house to elevate some of the heat that builds up inside the box (I live in coastal SC and it tends to get a little warm in the summer). I have been pretty diligent in looking for leaks and can't find any. My local irrigation guy at the hardware store said it is probably the check valve. Where is and what is the check valve on a 1 horse Gould irrigation pump?
Thanks in advance for your help.
John

Answer
Hi John,

If the pump is loosing the prime you have a leak BEFORE the pump, check the intake pipe for leaks, if no leaks found it should be the check valve. If you are taking the water from pond or lake the check valve, usually is located where the pipe enter the lake. if the water comes from a well the check valve is located in the pipe down to the well. You can visit www.irrigationtutorials.com for details.

Good luck
Guillermo
