bypassing sprinkler controller with switch

Question
QUESTION: I have a sprinkler station that controls a pump. I would like to put in a switch to operate the pump without using the station, to water other areas. Will this harm the station with feed back. I have a Hunter station and pump relay.

ANSWER: Hi Lou

Yes you can but have an electrician to do so. The controller sends 24V to the pump relay and the pump relay sends the  necessary voltage to the pump (110V or 230V) so you need a manual switch to operate the pump.

QUESTION: Thanks ,but I would like to put a switch at the control box that feeds 24 volts directly to the relay. I will have an electrician do it.

Answer
Hi Lou

The controller port for the pump only has 24v when one zone is started. You probably needs to connect to the 24V outlet from the transformer. I recommend install a Sw to the pump start using a 24V transformer different than the one on the controller.

Guillermo
