Tomatoes; Ripening

Question
how long does it take for tomatoes
to become edible?

Answer
It all depends on the variety of tomato you are growing. Some varieties develop full fruit with two weeks of blooming. Others take as long as four weeks. Once they grow to full size, weather is the primary determinant as to when they ripen from green to red. Cool and wet weather will delay this process, whereas heat and moderate rain will hasten it. There are many factors involved, but usually you should have edible tomatoes by August 10th.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Regards,

Mike
