growing from seed

Question
Mike,
This county is planning a community garden for everyone to plant organically.  My questions are if it's too late to plant any or all of these plants from seed in mid may in northeast pa; lettuce, cucumbers, zucchini, beans, cherry tomatoes, Brussels sprouts & broccoli.

Answer
It is not too late. The last expected frost date for NE PA is May 20th; therefore you can plant the seeds this weekend, and by the time they germinate, the frost date will have passed for the tender crops. The only vegetables that will lag behind by a couple of weeks are the tomatoes. But those grown from seed directly in the garden grow much faster and will catch up by mid-July.

It sounds like a great project. Good luck, and please write again if I can ever provide assistance.

Regards,

Mike
