hosta from seed


Question
I would like to attempt growing hosta from seed.  I have purchased seed and would like to know the best route for success.  I do have growing lights, as i start my tomatoes from seed every year.  your assistance is appreciated.

Hi Jeff,
Thanx for your question.  I've had pretty good luck growing hostas from seed.  Prepare the pots like you do for your tomatoes and spread the seeds over the top of the soil.  Cover them lightly with soil and I sprinkle a light layer of milled sphagnum moss to prevent damping off disease.  Keep at about 70 degrees and don't let the dirt dry out but make sure it's not soggy.  Germination occurs in about 2 weeks but can continue for several weeks.  I hope this helps.
