buttercup squash

Question
In cleaning up some of the garden the squash vine broke, it had quite a few squash on it.  Will they still ripen, how should they be stored?  We have several types of squash: delica, acorn, buttercup, butternut, goloden hubbard.  Should all of these be picked at the same time?
Thank you!!

Answer
Kris:
No, they will not ripen once the vine is cut. Go ahead and cut one though, they may be ripe enough to eat, just not mature enough to store. All the squash will probably ripen around the same time, but you should check the seed packets, catalogs or plant stake to get approximate days to maturity. The various squash will have different ripe coloration. For more on picking squash see this post: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Growing-Vegetables-740/2009/8/butternut-squash-13.htm
