Diatomaceous Earth

Question
I am making my first raised garden (vegetable) in my back yard and will be displacing a patch of grass/weeds.  After constructing the frame and clearing away the existing growth but before adding soil, I was thinking about spreading a layer of DE on the bottom of the plot and especially around the edges of the frame.  Is this beneficial or inconsequential ?   Also would it be beneficial to spread DE in around the base of emerging plants ?

Thank you.

Answer
Dear Mike,
I don't know so much about spreading it around the frame before adding the soil, but I find it quite helpful for the young plants.  Although I have free range chickens that tend to most bugs, I do find it great for tomato worms and potato bugs.
I wish you well on your gardening venture.  Enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Kind Regards,
KD Liz
