transplant tree

Question
thanks for you offer to help.
i have a pecan tree, by virtue of a squirrel forgeting his dinner, in my flower garden.  it is real close to the house and surrounded by sidewalks and a brick kneewall.

i live in the dallas/ft worth area.

the tree is now about 2 ft tall and about 1/2 - 3/4 inch in diameter.

i would like to replant it away from the house in the front yard.  what's the best way and the best time of year?

thanks again.

Answer
In Dallas I would wait until around the middle of Feburary to dig the tree up. For this small size tree I would make a circle about 12 inches around the tree and dig down about the same this will insure you get all the root system with the tree.  Dig the roots and soil with the tree. Dig a new hole twice this size and put the tree with the soil into the hole lining up the top of the soil that is around the tree with the ground level of the new hole. Fill the excess space with good potting soil and mulch around the tree. Water the tree giving it about at least an inch of water each week.
