insects around pond

Question
hi i have a problem with insects arond my pond ie small flyes and mosquitos can i do any thing to get rid of them as i am geting biten by them on an evening when feeding my fish can you help

Answer
Hi Andrew:  I would check the pond to see if the mosquitoes are breeding in the pond itself.... The only other thing you can do really for airborne insects are traps... such as the glue cards or a bug zapper.... Many insects are attracted to a water source such as ponds... you do not want to spray chemicals though because they will get into the pond and potentially kill your fish.... If you notice mosquito larve in the pond you can either add minnow or baby goldfish to the pond or get some mosquito fish to eat them.... dave
