hydrangeas and water pics

Question
Hey! We're picking hydrangeas the day before my daughter's wedding next week.  After picking we'll put them immediately into warm water.  After an hour or 2 we'd like to put them into the larger size water pics (the ones that are a tiny bit less than 5" from end to end).  I know they are thirsty flowers.  Will they last 24-36 hours this way?  Or will they drink up all the water in the pic?  We need to put them into the pic to anchor them in the large containers we have; otherwise they flop all out. Another thought is would it be better to cut them Thursday night before the wedding and let them drink water all night before putting in pics 12 - 15 hours later?
Thank you!

Answer
If it isn't to late, I would lout them as close to the wedding date as possible. It's not important as to the water they drink but the way you cut them. Use a sharp knife and no scissors. A lot of times cutting incorrectly will cause the stem to close and they can't get water! You can plunge the head in water and hydrate! Good luck!
