Lawn care

Question
1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using liquid vs pelleted fertilizers?

2. I live in Atlanta GA. What should a homeowner do to get his or her lawn in shape if they are just now starting to address weed issues?  Many of the homes in my subdivison have weed problems and I want to offer advise. Many of the lawns are newly soded (less than 8 month old).

3.  I have a few places in my lawn with thin grass (bermuda).  They are high traffic areas.  What can I do to green those areas up?

4.  Once my lawn is healthy, what should I do to maintain it?

Answer
Use pelleted fertilizers. they are easier to apply and once it rains they apply the same amount of fertilizer.

Use a weed and feed in spring and early fall. This is fertilizer w/broadleaf weed control products which is applied instead of a normal fertilizer application. You can also use liquid Weed-b-Gon (spot treatment) without fertilizer (recommended). Be sure to apply when weeds are growing actively and when temperatuers are below 80F.

Fertilize regularily during active growing period to encourage bermuda to spread. If possible, keep traffic off during early spring.

Fertilize your lawn starting in late spring through early fall. Water regularily (basis: deeply but infrequently, e.g. better to water twice per week for 1 hour i/o 15 minutes daily). Mow frequently and mow grass 2" tall consistently.
