bahia lawn care

Question
I live in SW florida and have a bahia lawn.  It appears to be thinning out over time, and weeds are developing where it is thinning out. Should I let it thin out and use plugs of a more aggressive variety (zoysia, flortan, ect...) where it thins out, or try to continuously pull weeds and re seed?  Thanks

Answer
bahai is a warm weather grass.
are you fertilizing 2-4 times per year?? are you mowing it at the proper height for that variety of grass?? what weed controls have you used in the past?? what type of sprinkler system do you have and how often do you use it??if you are not doing any of these things then putting a new turf type in will not be successful either.
1st visit a local garden center/nursery to see what they recommend for your area. buy products from them & they should be glad to help you plan a chemical & cultural program to help grow a nice lawn.
i'm in southern NJ, but i lived in FL for 2 years.
isolated spots of weed can be handled by using a RoundUp solution applied to the weed foliage w/a sponge or paint brush. repeat applications may be necessary.  check it out w/a good local garden center.
good luck.
