General lawn care

Question
Larry:
During this time of year, we are all bombarded with all kinds of advise on how to care for our lawn.

I have about an acre of lawn.
Some of the lawn is in hard soil, and most is in good topsoil. Most also I believe is acidic.
I also have a grub problem in the summer.

What is the best strategy to create a great lawn.

Do I need to aerate the hard soil. If so what equipment do I need to add to my ride-on.
How do I correct the grub problem.
Do I need to apply lots of lime.

I welcome your advice.
Nick M.

Answer
Hi Nicholas
Buy or rent an areator for the lawn, mow the lawn with a mulching mower, do no pick up clippings or leaves in the fall unless they are in heavy accumulations, mulching them will add organic matter and fortify the lawn. the first week of july spread Grub x and the grub problem will get better. fertilize in the spring and you should see a marked improvment.   Good Luck  Larry  ;-)
