Potting Soil

Question
I am planting a vegetable container garden and just purchased some potting soil.

As I look at it, it does not specifically say that it can be used for vegetables.  Is this a problem?  Do I need to look for a specific type of potting soil?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Marissa, no it will be fine, there are different quality potting mixes, but they all can be used for vegetables; some have fertilizer mixed in for a good, strong starting mixture, but it really isn't necessary, potting soil is lighter then top soil or garden soil, it is specifically made for containers; when you use this potting soil make sure you line the bottom of the container with some drainage material (pea stone, gravel etc.), so that this will assist with the drainage of excess water, and then mulch the surface so the mix doesn't dry out too quickly. I hope this helps you Marissa, and happy gardening! Nick
