amendments

Question
WHat is a compost amendment? Can I use it rather than potting soil? what is its purpose?

Answer
Hi Kaycee, a compost amendment is anything organic added to the soil to improve the texture and has been "aged" so that it will not rob your soil of nitrogen as it would while decomposing. It's primary purpose is to separate the soil and help encourage root growth and microbe development.  Most of these products are a little fine to be used as a potting soil alone.  Most potting soils are ready to use out of the bag but compost could be used to enhance potting soil that has been used for a year.
