Where can I get information on the soil type near our home?

A: Soil scientists have a complicated set of classifications and names for soil types. Your son will have lots of fun figuring them out!

However, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service has a nice free website that allows you to specify an address and get its soil classification.

Read the directions first…they aren’t the most intuitive in the world.

You’ll get a nice report which you can download.
