LIME

Question
CAN I LIME RIGHT AFTER I DO SPOT SEEDING ON MY LAWN?

Answer
Why would you want to do a thing like that, my friend?

You know, sometimes I read these questions and I feel like we're on different sides.  How is that possible?

Where did you get the idea that you need to put Lime down on your Soil?  Because everybody does it?

Is your Soil Calcium-deficient?  Did your Soil Test tell you this?

Is your pH THAT LOW?

Do you understand that IF YOU NEED LIME, it should be incorporated 6 to 8 inches deep -- to neutralize Soil in the root zone?  Because pH determines what, if any, nutrients are going to get into those Roots.

You want strong, healthy, thick Grass, don't you?  Get with the program! GET A SOIL TEST!

Tell me what zipcode you are growing this Lawn in, and I'll give you the contact information for your local Cooperative Extension Service to get a CHEAP Soil Test, done by SCIENTISTS, in a LABORATORY, for a price that's low low low.  It will cost you more to fill your tank up than to get your Soil tested.  In fact, at today's prices, I should start telling people it will cost you more to fill 'er up HALF WAY.

But Ben, dusting some Lime on the surface of your Soil is a WASTE of money.  Don't bother, buddy.  If you want to burn money, do it in a way that's interesting.  Serve it in sandwiches or something.  Don't spend it on Lime. Even better, spend it on some big fat Steaks for the Memorial Day Weekend next month.

Just save a little for the Soil test.

Of course, if you hold stock in one of the big Fertilizer/Pesticide companies like Scotts or Monsanto, then of course by all means destroy your Lawn.  You get these products for free.  Be my guest.  Keep the stockholders happy.  Increase market share.  Go crazy.

And if you don't hold stock in them, good, because they are going to lose a lot of business in the next few years as people figure out they do not need to Lime their Lawns on an ongoing basis.

Can we talk?

Send me your zipcode.  Please.
