Limonium latifolium

Sea lavender (Limonium latifolium) lee-MOE-nee-um lat-ih-FOE-lee-um Genus:  Limonium

Sea lavender is a rosette-forming perennial with mid- to dark-green leaves to 12 inches long, occasionally to 24 inches. Deep lavender-blue flowers are borne in panicles made of spikelets on wiry stems.

Noteworthy Characteristics: 

Grows well in salty, windy, and sandy conditions. Useful in a sunny herbaceous border and for naturalizing. Flowers are good for cutting and drying. 

Care: 

Prefers sandy, well-drained soil and full sun.

Propagation: 

Sow seed in containers outdoors. Divide in spring.

Problems: 

Rust, leaf, and flower spots, gray mold, Southern blight, and crown rot.
