Some Garden Walling Tips And How To Build A Garden Wall

For anyone out there who wants to add a bit of customisation to their garden but cannot afford to get the professionals in to do the job, you may well be able to try your hand at a bit of garden DIY. There are many things that you can do to add a bit of your personality to your garden and building a small stone garden wall is one of them. Here are just a few ideas about garden walling.

Now when it comes to building your garden wall you may wonder whether or not you need to get some foundations going before you set out on your task. This will depend on what sort of wall you are building and what materials you are using but if you are going for stone then its a good idea to set some small foundations. These need only be about 20 cm deep and about 50 cm wide but will allow you to build a sturdier and more secure wall.

When you have done this you may also wonder about the height of you wall. Again this will depend on what sort of wall you are going for, but for a stone wall you should look to build it up to about one metre high.

You will then need to make sure that you have got all of the materials you need together as well as a detailed plan on how to build the wall. If you are doing the stone wall then you might choose to go for simple flat stones or you might be a bit more daring and incorporate some curved stones into the mix as well.

When you start of however, always make sure that the base is filled with flat stones. You should look to find the flattest stones that you can and place them all along your trench above the foundations. After this you can build your wall up in whatever way you wish. If you are looking to make a nice looking wall then it is recommended that you have a bit more fun being creative with the curved stones and fitting them all in together.

When you get to the top you should again ensure that you have enough flat stones left to provide a finish. You can then add any features to the wall that you please such as plants of gravel along the base. If you want to get some creepers for the wall then this will give it a bit more character in time.

These are just a few ideas on making your own garden wall.
