Different Garden Fences And How To Build Them

If you want to protect your garden and add character to your lawn or home, then there's nothing more practical than a garden fence. A well-built garden fence can keep stray dogs and cats from ruining your herbs and plants. It can also enhance the beauty of your garden and act as a demarcation line between your lawn and your neighbour's garden.
Remember, though, that there are many different types of garden fences, so you'd better research and pick one that would best suit your needs. The most common types of garden fences, as well as the basics on building them, are listed below for your convenience.

1. Bamboo fences. These fences have been used in Asia, particularly in Japan, for years because of their natural beauty and resilience. Bamboo fences are particularly useful for hanging different decourative plants, such as orchids. You need two different lengths of bamboo poles for a sturdy fence. Simply space your bamboo poles about half a metre apart, then put a longer bamboo pole horizontally over these posts and secure with twine. You can also install bamboo poles right next to each other for a more Oriental feel.

2. Picket fences. Picket fences are the most common type of fences seen in gardens everywhere. They're easy to install, durable and create a rustic look for your garden. All you have to do is drive in wooden picket stakes into the fence holes drilled into the ground and fill these with gravel. Next, create fence rails with longer pieces of wood on the top and bottom of your posts. Secure these with long nails or wood screws. You can then paint them in traditional white or match the colour of your picket fence with the colour of your home.

3. Vinyl fences. A vinyl fence is durable, inexpensive and quite easy to install. Many people have chosen this type of fence as a practical addition to their home gardens. To install vinyl fences, you need to dig holes about 25cm wide and 15cm deep. Pour concrete into the holes and place the hollow, vinyl posts into the concrete before it sets. The wet concrete should fill the center of the posts. You can then attach the bracket rails to the posts using the screws provided for in the package. Then slide the fence panels into these brackets and secure with additional screws.

4. Chain link fences. Chain link fences are probably the most affordable fences you can install. These fences can keep stray animals out of your garden and also provide an inexpensive trellis for your vines. After digging the holes for your fence posts, pour in concrete then install the posts before the concrete dries. Make sure that your posts are straight using a plumb. You can then unroll the chain link fence starting from the first terminal post to the second, and slide a tension bar through this row. Continue the procedure for the next terminal posts. Be sure to tighten all bolts when you're done.

Add beauty to your garden and keep it safe from stray animals by installing a garden fence. From the information above, you can now choose which type of garden fence best fits your home and your budget.
