soil that is too wet

Question
we have sprinkler water regularly draining into our back yard, and don't know how to get it to drain or soak into the earth. looking for an inexpensive way to clear up this issue.

Answer
Hi Sabrina,

You need to dig a soak away and sump.

Dig a large round hole 1m diameter and about 2m depth at the lowest point in the garden where most of the water seems to run to.  Back fill this hole to the top with a gravel of 20mm size grade.  Cover top over with top soil.

If this does not work you will have to look installing proper land drains and you would need to hire a contractor to do the work.

Let me know how you get on.

Rgds,

Dr Dean Marston.
