I tilled wet soil! help!

Question
Hi, I'm a first time home owner and gardener. I was excited to get started with gardening this year and began removing old perrenial plants that I didn't want to have anymore (previous owners). There were roots everywhere, so I dug up the entire area to get as much removed as possible. Only one thing. The soil was wet. Too wet - very clumpy and clay like. Having read more about gardening today, I've read that I may have ruined my soil's structure. How can I know this for sure? Will I not be able to plant anything there now? How can I correct this? help!

Answer
Hi Sarah, Don't panic.  Wait until the soil is dry and till it again.
It would also be a good time to add additional organic matter if needed.  The soil should crumble in your hands into pea to golf ball size clods when it's the right texture to till. Jim
