Question
I have one area of my yard that stays wet most of the time. Are there any plants or grasses I could plant which would suck up the water & help dry out the area?

Hi Dennis, Yes there are.  You might check with you local nurseryman about hardiness in your area but these are my favorites:
Trees  -  Bald Cypress, River Birch, Magnolia
Shrub  - Virginia Sweetspire (Itea)
Grass  -  Acorus
Groundcover  - Houttuynia
