I got centipede looking worms in my house plant soil

Question
I have a plant that is not looking so good.  I watered it yesterday and found these dark brownish looking worms in the soil.  They are not earthworms which would be a healthy sign but centipede looking things with a hard shelled back. They are about 1 inch in length.  What are they and is this why my plant looks like it is on its death bed?

Answer
Hi Rebecca, The centipedes aren't feeding on your plant.  Something else is causing you plant to look bad. You can kill them with an insecticide drench or set the pot in warm water up to the rim for an hour or so and flush them out or buy a dog flea collar and cut it up into 1" pieces and set them on the soil surface (about 2 for a 6" pot, 6 for a 10" pot) for a long lasting effect.
What's causing your plant to look bad?  Hard to tell for sure, but most of the houseplant problems I see are from watering, improper light or insects like scale, mealybugs or spider mites.  I'd take it by your local garden center to get a positive diagnosis.  Good Luck.  Jim
