Barren soil.

Question
I live in Fla,and I've been battling a small area in my lawn where I simply can't get St. Augustine grass to grow. I've even had sod placed in this area watered faithfully and it still is turning brown and dying. The local lawn care co. says it may just be an area where nothing will grow.I've areated the area added sand etc. Please help!

Answer
The lawn care company may have a good point. Is the area too large for you to remove the turf and about 6 inches of the soil, refill the patch with clean top soil and resod? I suspect that the area is contaminated with a product like motor oil and/or gasoline. It could be the area where the builders buried their rubbish and stuff like cement products, drywall etc. and these products have changed the soil in that area.
