propagating from seed

Question
Hi Tom
I see you've had tons of experience starting plants from seed and enjoy it.  I'm an enthusiastic novice and have had some success with only fairly primitive aids at my disposal.  I've been avidly collecting seed from my garden this autumn and one of plants I have harvested is a solanum crispum glasnevin (also known as blue potato vine or chilean potato tree).  Have you any idea of the best conditions to help them germinate? I have searched the net but found no info.  I would be very grateful for any tips.
Kind regards
Jacky

Answer
Hi Jacky,
From my experience seeds from plants of the Solanaceae family are fairly easy to germinate.  Tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, peppers, tomatillos and ground cherries are all members of the Solanaceae family.  Barely cover the seed with soil and keep it moist.  I cover the pot with clear plastic to keep the humidity up but make sure the soil isn't soggy.  Germination occurs in 5-20 days depending upon the variety.  Some of the datura plants will take up to a month.  I hope this helps.
Tom
