Seed Pods

Question
Hi Mike, I have some "Hot Lip" seed Pods from a plant I have in my garden.  I don't know the proper name for it but they are about 2' tall, long spikes at the top with pretty purple flowers.  They bloom in the late spring into fall and the plants spread fast.  I haven't been able to find them other than a Nusery here in Maryland.  If you could let me know if I can keep the seed pods until next year and plant them where I want them to grow.

Thank you!!

Jeanne  ;)

Answer
You sure can.  Just allow the pods to dry for at least 3 days indoors on a paper towel. The carefully remove the seeds and allow them to dry for three more days.  Then place the seeds in a ziplock bag, which in turn is stored in a sealed tupperware container in the back of your refrigerator for at least three months.  The cool dry conditions simulate the dormant period needed for good germination.  Next spring, you can then plant the seeds as normal.

I hope this answered your question.

Have a great weekend.

Mike
