Trying to save some pines

Question
Hi, I hope you can help me. I think I'm in the right topic now, the pine tree expert couldn't help me out. I live in Ontario, Canada (more specifically just South East of North Bay) we don't have many conifers on our property (actually only 2 and one is pretty much dead) but we love them! We found 3 seedlings under our healthy pine about 4" tall and one more a little less than 2' tall, we have found seedlings in previouse years and they never survive the winter. We want to make sure these ones survive so we have dug them up (this morning!), potted them and brought them inside. I can't tell you what specific kind of pine they are, but they do have short needles if that helps at all. Can you tell me what I need to do to make sure these survive the winter now or have I messed up by taking them out of the ground? Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hi Melissa,
Thanx for your question.  Keep your pine seedlings in a well lit window, a southern or eastern exposure is best and don't let the plant dry out but don't let the soil remain soggy, it should drain freely.  Don't feed the seedling during the winter.  Put the seedlings outdoors after the last frost in the shade for about 10 days and then you can plant them out in the desired garden spot.  I hope this helps.
Tom
