Maternity plant care

Question
restaurant     My husband and me was at the Cattail Restaurant in Baldwin Michigan. I saw this plant I asked if I could have some of the babies? I have about 20 growing now. How do I take care of them?

Answer
Hi Teresa,
Thanx for your question.  I think the plant to which you refer as a "maternity plant" is the kalanchoe, also known as "mother of thousands" because it will drop plant material to the ground that forms hundreds, even thousands of new plants.  Kalanchoe are succulents and native to areas around the Indian Ocean.  Don't overwater and make sure they get plenty of sunshine.  They don't require a lot of fertilizer so a moderate feeding every now and then will be helpful.  Feed with 12-12-12 balanced fertilizer according to the directions on the box.  I would put them outdoors in the spring and summer after the last frost as these plants always benefit from a vacation out in full sun for the summer.  I hope this helps.
Tom
