Rafflesiana

Question
QUESTION: Hey guys. I have a Nepenthes Rafflesiana that I bought from you about a year ago. I have it in a terrarium with four 24 watt florescent bulbs. The plant has great color and has two pictures and another forming. My question is about the lid. Not long after the picture's lid opens the tip browns. The rest of the picture has great color. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Jason

ANSWER: Hi Jason,

This sounds like the lights may be a bit hot.  How close are the plants to the lights?  What's the temperature in the terrarium?  Try moving the plants so that they are a little further away from the lights.  If you get me a chance, send me a photo of the plant.  In of itself, the lid browning some from something like this isn't a big issue if the rest of the plant looks fine.

Good Growing!

QUESTION: Jeff I also have mylar on the two sides. To much light??

Answer
Hi Jason,

Since your plant looks good, and other conditions seem right, being a little close to the lights would explain browning lids.  Compact fluorescent bulbs get fairly warm, so if a pitcher was close it could cause some browning.  I would need a photo to help more.
